1966 This September Noel Fidel will watch as his youngest son, Alexander, Class of 2009, meets his freshman trip mates outside of Robinson Hall.  (Class of ’09, already. Wow!) Alex will follow in the footsteps, and the wake, of Brothers Nathan ’02 and Louis ’03, all of whom are, or will be, competitive college swimmers.

Nathan and Louis are now enrolled in the University of Arizona law school. Noel has returned to academia as well. He left the Arizona Court of Appeals in 2003, after 20 years as a judge, and is now an Associate Dean and law professor at Arizona State. Anne Fidel is also back to the classroom, as a French teacher at an inner city Phoenix public school.

Noel has contributed to the class and the college in many significant ways, most recently as President of the Alumni Council.

Vietnam vet Rob Cleary has published a book, “welcome Intruder: Stories from the Logbook of a Marine Naval Flight Officer”. It’s full of letters, photos and papers related to the war. As one review said, “These stories weave a rich tapestry and serve as the collective memory of multiple events and ultimately of the bond shared by men who lost the final remnants of their boyhood in a country far from home”. It’s pretty much a toss-up for the “youngest child in the class” crown. Both Gregor McGregor’s daughter Margaret and Bill Wilson’s son Henry Clay arrived in 2003.  Both could be learning the Salty Dog in September 2021 when the Class of 2025 arrives on campus! Any other challengers?

Actually, its grandchildren classmates seem to be welcoming these days. Steve Warhover’s first granddaughter, Kelly, was born in January, joining her 3-year-old brother Jack. Karen and Bob Serenbetz celebrated the arrival of their first grandchild in February. A tireless worker for the class and Dartmouth, Bob is now doing an outstanding job with our Class Newsletter. Doug Rosenberg, recently retired from the Seattle law firm of Preston Gates & Ellis, was planning to head for Brooklyn this spring to baby sit grandson number one after the birth of his second.

Steve Abram has changed jobs and climate zones. After five years as Chair of Anesthesiology at the University of New Mexico, he’s returned to the Medical College of Wisconsin in Milwaukee to work part time at a pain clinic and do research. The other part of the time he can be found kayaking up on Lake Sinnissippi with Pam.

And many thanks and congratulations to Stan Colla, who is retiring as Vice President, Alumni Relations after more than a decade of outstanding service. He had graced a challenging, highly visible position with dignity and effectiveness.
