Class Notes, November/December 2008

As I drove around the green on a beautiful summer’s day in Hanover,  I made  a left onto College Street from West Wheelock, and noted an information booth on the left.. Bill Chamberlin was  happily assisting visitors to Dartmouth by providing them with directions and other salient information about Dartmouth. He has been doing this  for the past three years and  has welcomed visitors from England, South Korea, Bermuda, China,  Japan, and most of the states. He speaks with 20 or more people during each  of his four hour shifts. Most of his visitors are families whose youngsters are planning to apply to Dartmouth and are delighted to soak up as much information about Dartmouth as they can obtain.

Peter Bridges, on the other hand, needs no directions for his mountaineering adventures as he reports the following: “Mary Jane and I did a five-day trek across Corsica in June, from Corte, the old capital in the center of the island, almost to Cargese on the west coast--almost, because the heat was considerable and we rented a van to go the last few miles, from the former farmhouse where we spent the last night to the beach, where we dived into a cool clear sea.  It was the same route I had taken in 2005 with daughters Elizabeth and Mary, Elizabeth's husband Drew and 12-year-old son Peter, and son Andrew '92 and his wife Maury, also '92.  This time, besides the two of us, the trekkers included Elizabeth, Mary, son David '79 and wife Regan, and four friends.  This time some of us also picked up fleas  at one of the refuges where we stayed; but it was altogether a good trip, and I celebrated my 76th birthday on the trail.”

Lynne and Bill Friedman happily announced the marriage of their daughter Kate. She was married on Saturday, August 9,th, 2008. Kate is a registered nurse currently working at Sloan Kettering Hospital in New York City. Lots of luck to all!

I sadly must report the death of Wayne “Cooz” Komara. and offer our sincere condolences to his wife, Jana, and their children.
