Class Notes, July/August 2007

Wrapping up the winter of 2007, I received word from Harlan Fair that, "The first weekend in March is a Fair Family tradition to get together and ski with all the grandchildren in Vail Colorado. My two sons, Mike and Greg, have ski homes in the area. They, along with spouses, joined Anne and me for Saturday night dinner. I was able to ski with all six grandchildren on Sunday. It was a very satisfying and successful weekend." Of course this weekend coincided with the CarniVale weekend at which Ann and Ralph Heins and Dick Conn also participated. Bob Callendar and Dick Fleming hosted a mini reunion at their condo at Harbour Ridge at which the following attended: Beekman, Clancy, Dodge, Hagoort, Malin, Pitts, Schnell, Springer, Tukey, Warren and Zimmermann plus 13 wives and guests for a total of 26 bodies. And from Steve Donovan comes word of Gib Warren's two holes in one in the same round of golf. Wonderful, Gib!

Ron Scheman former U.S. Executive Director of the Inter-American Development Bank and the author of "Greater America," reports that he has tried and flunked retirement. He has just finished the financing round for a new company that is working on opening the e-commerce highway to small business in Latin America. Continuing his life-long commitment to improving relations with Latin America Ron has written an op-ed piece in the March 28, 2007 Charleston Post and Courier in which he states among other things that this is not a time for foreign aid. Constructive and practical collaboration is required to make a difference. He suggests attention to the following: collaboration to address global warming, a major program to advance education, build an American energy committee, strengthen infrastructure for trade and investment, and respect for the rule of law.

Always exploring new ways to improve our award-winning web site, Dave Halloran has decided to experiment with a different approach. He writes, "We will continue to run the announcements and post the stories of our class activities, and include all the pictures we can get our hands on. Send all you have, and in particular, recent events like the Mini Reunions, the Golf Tournaments, Birthday parties. They are all wonderful. However, in addition to all that, technology has gifted us with the capacity to store unlimited digital data on the Dartmouth Server, at no charge to the class." He goes on to say that some of you would also like to see things that the power of the Net places at our fingertip, that is what we are going to do. "We will start to include pictures, videos, presentations, and anything that we think would be of wide interest. Some of these are really very exciting, and to introduce the program, we are beginning it with a romantic video, I Wish You the Strength of All Elements. It describes deep and lasting friendships and common dedication. It describes this loving class. It describes us."

Cheers!
